Monster Logistics is a freight broker. We do not haul your hazmat load ourselves. We find a carrier that hauls hazmat, vet that carrier on every load, and track the load with MacroPoint until it is delivered. You deal with one team, reachable 24/7, instead of a list of carriers.

What hazmat freight means for a shipper

A load is hazmat when the product is on the federal hazardous materials table or meets one of the DOT hazard class definitions. There are nine hazard classes, from explosives and gases to flammable liquids, corrosives and toxic materials. The class and the UN number decide the packaging or tank, the placards, the driver requirements and the paperwork. If you are not sure how your product is classed, start with section 14 of its safety data sheet and your own compliance team.

Hazmat freight we book

We book hazmat in bulk and packaged form:

  • Bulk: hazmat in tankers
  • Packaged: drums, totes, pails and dry chemical

We book these hazard classes:

  • Class 3: Flammable and Combustible Liquids
  • Class 4: Flammable Solids, Spontaneously Combustible Materials and Dangerous When Wet Materials
  • Class 5: Oxidizers and Organic Peroxides
  • Class 8: Corrosives
  • Class 9: Miscellaneous Hazardous Materials

If your product falls outside these classes, we are not the right fit for that load.

How we match a hazmat load to a carrier

We work with carriers that haul hazmat. When your load comes in, we look at the product, the hazard class, the lane and the equipment it needs, then match it to a carrier whose drivers and trailers fit. We check the carrier on every load before we assign it. We only use carriers with active hazmat registration and $5 million in combined liability insurance.

For hazardous liquids the tank comes first. Tankers for hazardous liquids use linings, gaskets and valves chosen for the product, and the wash record from the last load matters as much as the trailer. Our guides on shipping corrosives and acids, tank wash requirements and temperature-controlled chemical transport go deeper on each.

What we need from you to book a hazmat load

Send us:

  • The product name, UN number, hazard class and packing group
  • Whether it ships in bulk or packaged (drums, totes, pails), and the quantity or volume
  • Pickup and delivery addresses, with dock hours and receiving rules
  • The safety data sheet
  • Any special handling, such as heat, insulation or a lined tank

With those we come back with a real answer, not a guess.

Who is responsible for what

Hazmat rules split the work between the shipper and the carrier.

  • You, the shipper: identify and class the product, package and label it, and prepare the shipping papers. The papers carry an emergency response phone number.
  • The carrier: hauls the load under its own hazmat obligations. That means a properly placarded vehicle, a driver with the right CDL endorsements, and the insurance and registrations the product calls for.
  • Monster, the broker: vets the carrier, matches the load to it, coordinates pickup and delivery, tracks the load and flags gaps in the paperwork before the load is tendered.

A broker does not take over either side’s duties. Our job is to line both sides up before the truck rolls. To read the rules in full, see our hazmat compliance guide and the placarding and labeling field guide. Driver requirements are covered in CDL hazmat endorsement.

Tracking and support

Every hazmat load is tracked with MacroPoint from pickup to delivery, and our U.S.-based team is reachable 24/7 if something comes up in transit.

Hazmat Freight FAQ

No. Monster Logistics is a freight broker. Carriers do the hauling. We match your load with a carrier that hauls hazmat and coordinate the move.

Bulk hazmat in tankers and packaged hazmat in drums, totes, pails and dry chemical, in hazard classes 3, 4, 5, 8 and 9: flammable and combustible liquids, flammable solids and other Class 4 materials, oxidizers and organic peroxides, corrosives, and miscellaneous hazardous materials.

The product name, UN number, hazard class and packing group, the quantity, your pickup and delivery details and the safety data sheet. The shipper also prepares the shipping papers, which include an emergency response phone number.

The requirements sit with the shipper and the carrier. Drivers need the right CDL endorsements, and the carrier carries the registrations and insurance the product calls for. We only use carriers with active hazmat registration and $5 million in combined liability insurance, and we check them on every load.

The lane, the product with its UN number and hazard class, the quantity, and your pickup and delivery windows. Call (330) 274-4280 or use the quote form.

As early as you can. Hazmat loads need the product details and paperwork in order before pickup. Send us the lane and the product and we will tell you what timing looks realistic.
